  • 3/4 teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 3 teaspoons Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Ground Ginger
  • 6 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 2/3 Cups Milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together molasses, butter flavored shortening, sugar, egg, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together baking soda, ground cloves, cinnamon, salt, ground ginger, and flour. Gradually add this mix to the wet ingredients until combined.
  4. Slowly mix in hot water until you reach a soft dough consistency.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into shapes using cookie cutters.
  6. Place shapes on prepared baking sheets and bake for approximately 10 minutes or until edges are firm but centers remain soft.
  7. Allow cookies to cool before decorating with icing made from powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.
