  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk (or plant-based milk)
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg (or flax egg for vegan)
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (or gluten-free mix)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup crushed chocolate sandwich cookies
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • a few drops blue gel food coloring (or alternatives like butterfly pea powder)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • to taste extra mini chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl or stand mixer, combine warm milk and active dry yeast. Let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
  2. In another bowl, whisk together sugar, flour, salt, and vanilla extract.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and eggs to the dry ingredients along with melted butter and food coloring if desired.
  4. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic (approximately 8–10 minutes). Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about ½ inch thick.
  6. Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle with brown sugar mixed with cinnamon, followed by crushed cookies and mini chocolate chips.
  7. Roll tightly from one edge into a log and slice into equal pieces (about 12).
  8. Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise again for about 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for approximately 25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. While baking, beat cream cheese with softened butter until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla to combine.
  10. Once cooled slightly, frost the rolls generously with cream cheese frosting.
