Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 6 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 3 bay leaves
- 1 tsp black peppercorns
- 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 tsp agar-agar powder
Instructions
- 1. Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, mix soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, bay leaves, and peppercorns. Add the chicken and marinate for at least 1 hour.
- 2. Sear the chicken: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Remove chicken from marinade and sear until golden brown on both sides (about 5 minutes per side). Set aside.
- 3. Create the sauce: Pour the reserved marinade and chicken broth into the skillet. Bring to a gentle boil.
- 4. Thicken the sauce: Whisk in agar-agar powder and simmer until slightly thickened (about 5 minutes).
- 5. Combine everything: Return the chicken to the skillet and let it simmer in the sauce for about 10 minutes.
- 6. Serve hot over steamed rice or with vegetables.
