Ingredients
- 4 fresh unwaxed oranges
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- Pinch of salt
- Optional spices: cinnamon stick, star anise, or cloves
Instructions
- Wash the oranges well and peel them carefully to remove the bright orange skin without the white pith.
- Slice the peels into thin strips (about 1/4 inch wide).
- Place peels in a pot of cold water, bring to a boil, and simmer for 10 minutes; drain and repeat this process 2-3 times.
- In the same pot, combine sugar and water; gently boil until sugar dissolves.
- Add boiled peels to the syrup and cook over low heat for 45 minutes until translucent.
- Transfer peels onto a cooling rack lined with parchment paper and let dry for several hours.
