Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 8-ounce packages cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 15.25 ounce white cake mix
  • Red gel food coloring
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 1/2 to 5 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray two 8-inch round cake pans with cooking spray and line with parchment paper.
  2. For the cheesecake layer, mix cream cheese, sugar, and flour until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in sour cream, heavy cream, and vanilla. Pour into one prepared pan and bake in a water bath for 27-32 minutes until set. Cool overnight in the fridge.
  3. Prepare the cake layers by mixing the white cake mix according to package instructions; divide batter into two bowls. Color one red and the other blue using gel food coloring. Pour into separate pans and bake according to package directions; cool completely.
  4. For frosting, beat softened butter until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt until fluffy.
  5. Assemble the cake: Layer red cake on the bottom, spread frosting over it, add the cheesecake layer, top with more frosting, then place the blue layer on top.
