Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
- 1 cup cold whole milk (or almond milk)
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 6 oz chocolate batons (or high-quality chocolate chips)
- For egg wash: 1 large egg and 1 tablespoon milk
- For dusting: 1 cup confectioners' sugar
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually mix in cold milk until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle. Flatten the butter between parchment paper into a rectangle and place it on one half of the dough. Fold over the other half and seal.
- Roll out again into a rectangle and fold into thirds like an envelope. Repeat this rolling process two more times, chilling between folds if necessary.
- Cut triangles from the final rolled-out dough, place chocolate batons at the base, roll tightly from base to tip, and shape into crescents.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour). Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and brush with egg wash before baking for approximately 20 minutes or until golden brown.
