  • 1 loaf Pasquier Sliced Brioche (17.6 ounces)
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups milk
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
  • 2 cups assorted fresh berries

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cut the brioche into 1-inch cubes and toast them on a baking sheet until lightly golden.
  3. In a large bowl, combine toasted bread cubes with melted butter.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and lemon zest until smooth.
  5. Lightly grease an 8×8 inch or 9×9 inch baking dish.
  6. Layer half the bread cubes in the dish followed by half the berries; repeat layers.
  7. Pour custard mixture over layers, pressing down gently to submerge the bread.
  8. Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes until set and golden brown.
  9. Let cool for at least 20 minutes before serving.
