- 1 loaf Pasquier Sliced Brioche (17.6 ounces)
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
- 4 eggs
- 2 1/4 cups milk
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
- 2 cups assorted fresh berries
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cut the brioche into 1-inch cubes and toast them on a baking sheet until lightly golden.
- In a large bowl, combine toasted bread cubes with melted butter.
- In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and lemon zest until smooth.
- Lightly grease an 8×8 inch or 9×9 inch baking dish.
- Layer half the bread cubes in the dish followed by half the berries; repeat layers.
- Pour custard mixture over layers, pressing down gently to submerge the bread.
- Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes until set and golden brown.
- Let cool for at least 20 minutes before serving.
