- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 1/4 cups unsalted butter (softened)
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 28 ounces sweetened condensed milk
- 6 ounces dark chocolate (60% cacao)
- Sea salt (for finishing)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually mix in flour and salt, then add the egg yolk until a dough forms. Press the dough into the prepared pan.
- Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden. Allow it to cool slightly.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sweetened condensed milk, corn syrup, and butter, stirring until thickened (about 5 minutes). Pour over the cooled shortbread base.
- Sprinkle chopped dark chocolate over the warm caramel and let it melt before spreading evenly. Finish with a sprinkle of sea salt.
- Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.
