  • 3 large sweet onions, sliced
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tsp fresh thyme, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 ½ cups Gruyère cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and sauté the sliced onions until golden brown.
  3. Add minced garlic and thyme to the onions; cook until fragrant.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish followed by half of the onion mixture. Repeat with remaining potatoes and onions.
  5. Pour beef broth evenly over the layers and top with shredded Gruyère cheese.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
