Ingredients
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Natural food coloring (red or pink)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture until combined. If too sticky, add more flour as needed.
- Divide dough; color one portion with natural food coloring.
- Roll colored dough into a rectangle and freeze for 5 minutes. Cut hearts from the colored dough and layer them to form a log.
- Wrap the log in plastic wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes before slicing into rounds.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake cookies for about 12 minutes or until lightly golden.
