  • 3 family-sized black tea bags (or 12 individual tea bags)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 quarts water (divided)

Instructions

  1. Boil 4 cups of water in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Remove from heat once boiling.
  2. Dunk the tea bags into the hot water several times to hydrate before steeping. Let steep for 5 minutes then remove the tea bags.
  3. Stir in 1 cup of sugar until fully dissolved.
  4. Pour the sweetened tea into a 1-gallon pitcher and add the remaining 3 quarts of cold water. Mix well.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for optimal chilling.
  6. Serve over ice and garnish with mint leaves or lemon slices if desired.
