Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1½ cups cold unsalted butter (cubed)
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup ice water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 6 to 7 cups sliced apples (peeled and cored)
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- In another bowl, whisk eggs, ice water, and lemon juice. Combine with the flour mixture until just mixed. Divide dough into two pieces and chill for 30 minutes.
- Toss sliced apples with sugars, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, lemon juice, and vanilla.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the larger dough piece to fit a greased 9×13-inch pan. Spread apple filling over the crust.
- Roll out the smaller dough piece to cover the filling. Cut vents in the top crust.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown and bubbling. Cool before glazing with powdered sugar mixed with milk and vanilla.
