  • Total Time: 1 hour 20 minutes
  • Yield: Serves approximately 12 slices 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1½ cups cold unsalted butter (cubed)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup ice water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 6 to 7 cups sliced apples (peeled and cored)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. In another bowl, whisk eggs, ice water, and lemon juice. Combine with the flour mixture until just mixed. Divide dough into two pieces and chill for 30 minutes.
  3. Toss sliced apples with sugars, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, lemon juice, and vanilla.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the larger dough piece to fit a greased 9×13-inch pan. Spread apple filling over the crust.
  5. Roll out the smaller dough piece to cover the filling. Cut vents in the top crust.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown and bubbling. Cool before glazing with powdered sugar mixed with milk and vanilla.
